As part of Alexandria University’s commitment to promoting transparency, academic honesty, and the principles of responsible research conduct, the first meeting of the University’s Research Integrity Office was held . The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hesham Saeed, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and attended by the Office’s members.

The meeting aimed to establish the organizational framework governing the Office’s work and to discuss mechanisms for activating research integrity policies. These include combating plagiarism, ensuring adherence to research ethics, and raising awareness among researchers and postgraduate students about international best practices in this field.

The meeting also reviewed the Office’s main mandates, which include:

Developing and approving policies and procedures governing research integrity.

Receiving and examining complaints related to scientific misconduct.

Providing support and training for researchers in research ethics.

Coordinating with academic and administrative bodies to ensure the implementation of quality and integrity standards.

Participants emphasized the pivotal role of the Research Integrity Office in enhancing the quality of the University’s research outputs and strengthening its reputation both locally and internationally, in line with full compliance with ethical and professional standards.

The meeting also addressed challenges related to the retraction of a number of research papers published in international journals, and discussed ways to handle such cases in accordance with established academic standards.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to develop an executive action plan for the upcoming period. This plan includes launching awareness and training programs, as well as developing an integrated system for monitoring and documenting scientific misconduct, in support of the University’s efforts to build a research environment grounded in integrity and responsibility.
