Graduate Studies and Research Council Discusses Updating Directory of Centers of Excellence and Accredited, Central, and Specialized Research Laboratories
Alexandria University's Council of Graduate Studies and Research, meeting this morning, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, chaired by Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, discussed updating the Directory of Centers of Excellence and Accredited, Central, and Specialized Research Laboratories at Alexandria University. The Council also discussed Alexandria University Council Decisions No. 22 of 2013 and No. 9 of 2015, exempting master's and doctoral students from submitting their dissertations in the conventional format, as well as the public viva, in the event that their dissertations are published internationally.

* The Council congratulated Dr. Mohamed El-Feki on the renewal of confidence and the issuance of the presidential decree re-appointing him as Dean of the Faculty of Law for a second term, Dr. Ahmed Abdelrehim Hussein on his appointment as Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Ayman Shetewy on his appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Business, and Dr. Essam Wahba, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Graduate Studies and Research, on the occasion of the Alexandria University Center of Excellence for Water Laboratory obtaining international accreditation in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the highest international standard for laboratory efficiency and ensuring the quality and accuracy of test and analysis results.

* The Council approved the proposed cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Malta to enhance scientific cooperation between the two parties, the proposed memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and the International Medical University in Malaysia in the field of student and faculty exchange and other areas of research and development, the proposed cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the proposed cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Cordoba in Spain, the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the International Centre for Cultural Communication in Malaysia (ICCCM), and the proposed memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and the General Authority for Accreditation and Health Supervision. The council also approved the data transfer agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) and Weill Cornell University's Faculty of Medicine in Qatar to enable the continuation of the preparation of research papers in the field of bioinformatics.



Education and Student Affairs Council Announces Readiness for Second Semester Midterm Exams
Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs at Alexandria University, announced during the Education and Student Affairs Council meeting held yesterday that logistical preparations and arrangements have been completed across all university faculties for the organization of the second semester midterm exams. He also noted that all necessary procedures and measures have been implemented to provide a suitable examination environment for students. He praised the regularity of the educational process within the university's faculties.

Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen noted that the university is organizing a number of educational seminars during the second semester, with the participation of a select group of scholars, experts, and academics. These seminars aim to contribute to raising the awareness of students across the university's various faculties and understanding all the challenges facing Egypt, fostering a sense of loyalty and belonging to the nation, and discussing current societal issues.
As part of the university's strategy to support cooperation between academia and industry, the council discussed the general framework of the model of the collaborative education agreement between the Faculty of Engineering and industrial partners, and then submitted it to the University Council for approval.
In light of the university's commitment to supporting students with disabilities, the council was informed of the letter from the Supreme Council of Universities regarding the identification of categories benefiting from the objective test paper, based on scientific criteria appropriate to each student's characteristics.
Dr. Sameh Nakhla, Director of the University's Centre for Measurement and Evaluation, reviewed a detailed report on the development of academic performance of students receiving warnings, the impact of academic counseling in reducing the number of students expelled andm at risk of expulsion at the university.



The council honoured Dr. Nevin Bakry, Dr. Rehab Saleh, and Dr. Ayman Shetewi from the Faculties of Dentistry, Early Childhood Education, and Business respectively, in recognition of their outstanding efforts during their tenure as Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, wishing them continued success.
Alexandria University Receives US Embassy in Cairo Delegation to Discuss Academic Cooperation
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received a delegation from the US Embassy in Cairo on Sunday, March 16, 2025, headed by Ms. Evyenia Sidereas, Deputy Chief of Mission, with the aim of enhancing opportunities for academic, scientific, and research cooperation and the knowledge economy.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant President for International Cooperation and International Branches at Alexandria University, Dr. Sameh Shehata, Supervisor of the International Relations Office at Alexandria University, Dr. Boshra Salem, Assistant President for University Ranking, and Dr. Lana Habib, Executive Director of the Arabic Language Teaching for Foreigners Centre at Alexandria University (TAFEL Centre).

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa welcomed the American delegation and presented an overview of Alexandria University, the university's strategy and vision, international partnerships, and current and future projects. He also reviewed areas of cooperation between Alexandria University and American universities and research centres, explaining that the university has cooperation agreements and joint programs with many American universities.
During the meeting, Dr. Konsowa emphasized that Alexandria University is currently witnessing a wide diversity in establishing joint programs and degrees and international branches outside Egypt, and hosting branches of international universities with high international rankings in partnership with Alexandria University on the university's campus in Borg El Arab. This comes within the framework of the university's plan to internationalize education and raise its competitiveness regionally and internationally and provide educational opportunities for students in modern scientific s disciplines and future sciences, such as artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
He added that Alexandria University is interested in developing the concept of knowledge-based industry. In this regard, the university will link its Technology Park with counterparts in American, British, and European universities that have cooperation agreements with Alexandria University. This will connect scientific research outputs to industry, transform them into economic value, establish companies based on the outputs of Alexandria University's scientific ideas and research, achieve competitiveness in economic development, and support innovation and entrepreneurship at the university.
Dr. Konsowa indicated that discussions took place with the American delegation regarding the possibility of receiving students from American universities to study for one semester or more in certain engineering specialties, study Arabic for foreigners at the TAFL Centre, or undertake practical or applied training in industry.

For her part, the US Deputy Ambassador expressed her happiness to visit Alexandria University and learn about the educational programs offered to its students, pointing to the distinguished reputation of Alexandria University internationally, the achievements it has made at the regional and international levels, and the double degrees signed by Alexandria University with high-ranked universities, which reflect the university's interest in the continuous development of its educational system at all levels. She looked forward to more cooperation and coordination of efforts with the university to cooperate in many areas of common interest, especially in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) by bringing in American experts specialized in this field or other fields to participate in scientific conferences or seminars at Alexandria University.





Centre of Excellence for Water Laboratory Obtains ISO/IEC 17025:2017 International Accreditation
In line with the directives of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, to enhance the quality of scientific research and the efficiency of research laboratories, and the university's pursuit of leadership locally, regionally, and internationally, the Alexandria University Centre of Excellence for Water Laboratory has obtained international accreditation in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the highest global standard for laboratory efficiency and ensuring the quality and accuracy of test and analysis results.
This accreditation represents a significant achievement, as it confirms the laboratory's ability to conduct chemical and physical water testing in accordance with international standards. This enhances the reliability of results, supports research projects, and contributes to addressing the challenges of water scarcity, pollution, climate change, and sustainable development at both the local and international levels.
The Popular and Military Defense Forces Command organizes a visit for Alexandria University students to Ras El Tin Naval Base in celebration of the 10th of Ramadan anniversary
In an initiative that reflects the depth of national belonging and appreciation for the sacrifices of the Armed Forces men, and under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria university, the Popular and Military Defense Forces Command organized an exceptional visit for Alexandria University students to Ras El Tin Naval Base in celebration of the immortal 10th of Ramadan victories.
This visit comes within the framework of the leadership's strategy to deepen national awareness among students and enhance their understanding of the pivotal role played by the Armed Forces in protecting Egyptian national security.
The visit witnessed a busy program that included an inspection tour inside the base, where students were briefed on the latest technologies and equipment used in protecting Egyptian territorial waters, and saw the aircraft carriers "Gamal Abdel Nasser" and "Anwar Sadat", which are among the most modern naval vessels in the Egyptian fleet, and listened to a detailed explanation of their capabilities and advanced combat capabilities. They also had the opportunity to interact directly with members of the naval forces, and ask questions and inquiries about their role in protecting the homeland.
Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of the Military Education Department at Alexandria University, stressed the importance of this visit in enhancing the values of loyalty and belonging among students, and reminding them of the glories of the Egyptian Armed Forces, and their continuous sacrifices in all branches of the Armed Forces. The students expressed their pride and appreciation for the Egyptian Navy, and what they have seen of the development in Egyptian military capabilities, stressing the importance of the role played by the Armed Forces in protecting the homeland.
