Alexandria University won first place in the Micro-Certification Excellence Awards – Universities category. This announcement was made on the sidelines of the 13th Ain Shams University International Conference, held as part of the third scientific conference "Quality Practices in Education: Innovative Pathways to Excellence."
 
Dr. Mona Abdelaal El-Zahry, Director of the Egyptian Centre of the International Institute for Distance Education, presented the results of the competition, which aims to enhance the digital teaching skills of faculty members and students at Egyptian universities.
 
 
The award was received on behalf of Alexandria University by Dr. Ghada El-Khayat, Executive Director of the Educational Innovations and Distance Learning Unit at the university. The centre had directed professors to enrol in and complete digital training courses on the IIOE platform as part of its training plan for this year. Alexandria University has achieved remarkable progress in capacity building through this platform. The Centre for Educational Innovations and Distance Learning also participated in the conference through a session titled: "A Roadmap for Governance of Artificial Intelligence in Egyptian Universities."
 
 
It is worth noting that this competition is part of an initiative by the Egyptian Centre of the International Institute of Online Learning (IIOE Egypt) in partnership with the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI), which provides free courses through its online platform in the latest fields of digital education.
 
 
The competition honoured outstanding students in three main categories:
 
• University category: The award was given to the university with the highest participation in training courses.
• Faculty category: The faculty member who demonstrated outstanding performance in utilizing the IIOE Micro-Certification program, by obtaining the largest number of course completion certificates.
• Student category: The student who demonstrated outstanding performance in utilizing the IIOE Micro-Certification program, by obtaining the largest number of course completion certificates.
The awards were presented to the winners by Professor Dr. Sherif Keshk, Assistant Minister of Higher Education for Digital Transformation, Mr. Pan Feng, Deputy Director of the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHE), and Professor Dr. Mona Abdelaal El-Zahry, Director of the IIOE Egypt Centre.

He emphasized that the university has made all necessary arrangements to monitor the progress of the exams on an ongoing basis and to provide a suitable environment and all means of comfort and care for students during their exams.

Dr. Abdelmohsen directed the faculty vice deans to encourage final-year students to participate in the Egyptian Student Participation Survey issued by the Supreme Council of Universities. This survey aims to measure the quality of educational services and student satisfaction with their university experience. He emphasized that the results of this survey contribute to the development of the educational process within the Ministry of Higher Education's strategy.
 
 
 
He also highlighted the university's distinguished participation in the "Mawadda" presidential program, organizing events and workshops for faculty members and students, especially those with disabilities. He praised the efforts of Professor Dr. Mohamed Anwar, former Dean of the Faculty of Education, and the project team in implementing this important community initiative.

As part of the ongoing fruitful and constructive cooperation between Alexandria University and the Popular and Military Defense Forces, the Popular and Military Defense Forces, represented by the university's Military Education Department, organized a student visit to the Naval College in Alexandria.
 
 
The visit aimed to introduce students to the pivotal role the Naval College plays in preparing future officers, as well as to familiarize them with the latest advanced naval educational and training curricula and techniques.
 
 
 
During the visit, the students learned about the Naval College's rich history and its prominent role in graduating generations of leaders and officers who have contributed to the advancement of the Egyptian Navy and the protection of the homeland. They listened to the stories and heroic deeds of the college's graduates, who have written shining pages in Egypt's modern history. They also viewed the students' school day and the latest educational and training facilities, from classrooms equipped with the latest technology, to laboratories specialized in marine science and engineering, to advanced simulation devices that allow them to simulate realistic marine scenarios and apply what they have learned. The students also toured the college's various sports facilities and learned about the physical and athletic programs offered to Naval College students, which aim to build the character of officers capable of assuming responsibilities and performing their duties efficiently and competently.
 
 
 
For their part, the students expressed their admiration for learning about the latest maritime education methods, which rely on the latest educational technologies and interactive teaching methods, as well as modern navigational technologies and advanced communication systems used in naval units and vessels. Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Ambassador of the European Union to Egypt, attended the closing meeting of the Water Entrepreneurship Training Program in cooperation with the European Union, titled "Youth in Water: Shaping the Future" (EU for Water ln Egypt Aqua Dialogues). The meeting was attended by Dr. Roshdi Zahran, former President of Alexandria University and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alamein International University, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Essam Wahba, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Wael El-Meghlani, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Abdel Hamid El-Zoheiry, Professor at Cairo University and National Coordinator of the Prima Project, Dr. Walid Haqiqi, Head of the Planning Sector at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mr. Ahmed El-Wakil, President of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Dr. Dina El-Gayar, Director of the Project Management Unit at Alexandria University, in addition to a number of European Union ambassadors and consuls, and a group of water researchers and students.

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa welcomed Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst and her accompanying delegation to Alexandria University. He thanked the European Union for its unlimited support and cooperation with Alexandria University through the Alexandria University Centre of Excellence for Water. He emphasized that this project has become a distinguished scientific institution that conducts scientific research with various partners in the water sector, in addition to training and qualifying scientific cadres and establishing partnerships with specialized water bodies. Dr. Konsowa said that today's meeting places the responsibility on young researchers, specialists and experts at the Centre of Excellence for Water at Alexandria University to find innovative solutions to the problems of water poverty, diversify water sources and secure the per capita share of water in the future, in light of the major challenges facing the Egyptian state.
 
 
 
 
Dr. Konsowa also called on specialists to invest in ideas, innovation and harness the energies of youth in Egypt, noting that Alexandria University firmly believes in launching youth initiatives in order to transform challenges into real opportunities, support entrepreneurship and innovation incubators, and encourage creative ideas of researchers. He stressed that the university was not to be separated from its geographical environment, as it adopts an ambitious strategy to cooperate with the industrial sector and harness all scientific research to serve industry.
 
 
 
 
 
From this standpoint, Alexandria University established the Technology Park to link the outputs of scientific research to industry and turn it into applied research that serves the industrial sector, in addition to establishing start-up companies to support the pioneering ideas of young researchers and create a generation of youth to be leaders through their creative ideas to solve the problems facing their society. He noted that Cairo Water Week provides an opportunity for young researchers to communicate directly with industry professionals and present their research ideas.
 
 
 
 
 
Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry presented an overview of the Prima project, explaining that it includes 20 countries, including 12 from the European Union and 8 from the Mediterranean basin. He noted that the project provides the necessary funding for competitive projects in the fields of water, food, agriculture, and energy. He confirmed that the project fund has a budget of up to 700 million euros to finance these projects. He invited young researchers to submit their ideas, with the deadline for applications set for July 2025.
 
 
 
The meeting included an open dialogue and discussion session, where young researchers had the opportunity to ask questions, present their research ideas, and learn how to obtain support and funding for these ideas.

Dr. Rawya Mounir Konsowa gave a brief biography of her late father, explaining that he was born in January 1916, excelled in his studies and ranked first in the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University (formerly Fuad I University). He worked in the Ministry of Municipalities and participated in the design of the Khayreya Barrages, and established the Hydraulics Department laboratory at the Faculty of Engineering at Alexandria University. He had an artistic touch characterized by extreme precision in engineering drawings, Arabic calligraphy, and painting. She pointed out that the late Dr. Mounir Konsowa Award was established for top students in the Hydraulics subject in the Civil Engineering Department since 1983.
