Presidential Decree Appointing Dr. Nagda Mady as Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received Dr. Nagda Ibrahim Mahmoud Mady, where he congratulated her on the issuance of the presidential decree appointing her as Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, wishing her success in assuming the duties of her position, and continuous efforts to raise the level of the faculty. He stressed that the university will provide all forms of support and assistance to help her in carrying out her mission successfully.
A team of researchers at Alexandria University contributes to providing awareness messages to confront children's dental caries
As part of the Faculty’s mission to serve the community using the best scientific evidence, a team of researchers from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health developed a series of health education text messages and videos for mothers of preschool children to brush their children’s teeth. The development of the messages and videos is part of a comprehensive study aimed at addressing the problem of early childhood caries, which is one of the most prevalent health problems in children of this age group in Egypt (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34991701/). The messages are based on the social and subjective norms construct of the Theory of Planned Behavior, and the videos are based on the attitudes construct in the same theory. The research team consists of Dr. Merna Ehab, Dr. Nour Ammar, Dr. Hams Hamed, Dr. Nourhan Ali, Dr. Amira Elwan, Prof. Wafaa Essam and Prof. Maha El Tantawi.

Faculty of Tourism and Hotels Organizes Educational Seminar Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Glorious October War
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels organized on Tuesday the 3rd of October, an educational and awareness seminar on the Glorious October War, as part of a series of activities and events organized by the university to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the victories of the Glorious October War. Participants included Major General Hashem Abul-Fadl, Operations Commander of one of the Air Defense Brigades - Air Defense Force, Major General Staff Ahmed Khairy El-Shiwi, Commander of the Tank Company of the 21st Armored Division, and Major General Mohamed El-Sayed Ahmed Taha, Assistant Head of the Reconnaissance Branch at the Command of the Parachute Unit - Parachute Corps. The seminar took place in the presence of Dr. Abeer Attia, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Dina Ezz El-Din, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Colonel Ahmed El-Geziri, Head of the Recruitment and Mobilization Department and Director of the Military Communications Department at Alexandria University, and an elite group of leaders who lived through the October War, as well as faculty members and students of the faculty.
Major General Hashem Abul-Fadl, head of operations of one of the Air Defense Brigades - the Air Defense Force, confirmed in his speech that Egypt will live forever strong and solid, and he advised the youth to preserve their homeland and continue the march to advance our homeland, Egypt. He provided a detailed explanation of the preparations that the army made before the start of the war, and the strategic deception plan, that gave an element of surprise to the enemy to recover the beloved land of Egypt.
Major General Staff Ahmed Khairy El-Shiwi, Commander of the Tank Company of the 21st Armored Division, also confirmed that Egypt’s plans for the October War are currently being studied in war academies around the world, and during his speech he explained that the Arab countries’ solidarity with Egypt during the war helped in its success.
Major General Mohamed El-Sayed Ahmed Taha, Assistant Head of the Reconnaissance Branch at the Parachute Unit Command - Parachute Corps, clarified the reconnaissance plan in North and South Sinai to prepare for the war. He also explained the role of the commandos forces and paratroopers during the war.
In her speech, Dr. Abeer Attia, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the attendees, the heroes of the October War, and thanked them for the sacrifices they made for the sake of our nation. She stressed that the aim of this seminar is to introduce students and new generations to the history of their fathers and grandfathers who participated in the war, and to remind them of the heroism of the great Egyptian people, the owner of civilization and history who presented an epic with the best soldiers on earth in order to restore dignity. She also emphasized that love of the homeland is inherited in the genes of the Egyptian youth, who are aware and enthusiastic about building and defending their homeland at any time.
Dr. Dina Ezz El-Din, vice dean for community service and environmental development, congratulated the students on the occasion of the anniversary of the October War and also on the start of the new academic year. She stressed that each of us is a fighter on our front and in our workplace, and added that the love of Egypt and the spirit of October exist within us forever.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abeer Attia honored the heroes of the armed forces in attendance.
Faculty of Arts Organizes Educational Seminars on Role of Cultural Platforms in Developing Youth Awareness
As part of the activities of the Alexandria University Cultural Salon, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, participated today, in the educational seminar organized by the Faculty of Arts under the title "The Role of Cultural Platforms in Developing Youth Awareness", in which speakers included Dr. Helmy El-Namnam, former Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Dr. Enas Diab, Professor at the Faculty of Specific Education and Director of Horreya Creativity Centre. The event took place the Grand Hall of the Faculty and Leadership Development Centre at the Faculty of Nursing in Smouha, in the presence of Dr. Hani Khamis Abdo, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Dr. Mohamed Abdellah, former university president, as well as deans, vice-deans, faculty members and university students.
In his speech on this occasion, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa welcomed the attendees, stressing the university's keenness to hold educational seminars and host enlightened cultural symbols in order to spread awareness among its students, so that culture as a comprehensive concept becomes an essential pillar in building their personalities. He stressed the association of economic development to cultural development, and the need to raise awareness and introduce the efforts of the state in the implementation of a large number of national projects, in light of huge challenges at all levels. Dr. Konsowa affirmed that that the only solution to all problems is good education and enhancing the feeling of belonging to the homeland. He explained that the university is working according to the rapidly and dynamically developing strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education, in order to improve the quality of education, to reach a globally high level, capable of building the new republic through an integrated system of public, private and international universities, and providing learning opportunities and increasing knowledge. He directed students to benefit from the knowledge bank that allows access to scientific research free of charge that is not available to many students in the countries of the world as it is an unprecedented Egyptian experience. The University President directed the students to exert all efforts to obtain knowledge in the different disciplines, explaining that education is a continuous process that does not stop, as it has to keep pace with rapid changes in the various scientific and academic fields.
Dr. Helmy El-Namnam expressed his pleasure for being at Alexandria University, which was founded by Dr. Taha Hussein, one of the most prominent symbols of culture in Egypt and the Arab world, stressing the importance of this seminar. He pointed out that the issue of awareness is an inevitable necessity for all societies, for all groups of people, at all times in general, and at the present time in particular, where countries face the problems of fragmentation and division. He added that we are at a time when many societies around us were facing this danger, while Egypt was able to overcome many attempts of division, thanks to the cohesion between the Egyptian people and its deep-rooted institutions, including the army, police, Al-Azhar and the Egyptian Church. Dr. El-Namnam stressed the need to work and continue to spread cultural awareness to continue this national cohesion facing all of these attempts.
Dr. Ahmed Zayed pointed to cooperation between Alexandria University and Bibliotheca Alexandrina in many cultural activities that contribute to spreading awareness and culture in Alexandrian society. He stressed the importance of expanding the concept of awareness to building the mind and self and how to form a conscious self-capable of guarding itself from external conspiracies that aim to control the minds, in light of societies that suffer from many dangers such as illiteracy, terrorism, pollution and lack of awareness. He stressed the importance of how we must identify the problems facing our country and develop comprehensive solutions according to the jurisprudence of priorities, where young people face the danger of consumption culture and the gap between ambition and possibilities expands. He also pointed to the danger of social networking sites that represent a double-edged sword that can have a positive impact as a tool for culture and communication but can also be used negatively as a tool for segregation, spreading aggressive ideas, destroying awareness and dismantling society.
Dr. Hani Khamis pointed to the role of Alexandria University and the Faculty of Arts in raising awareness, spreading enlightening thought and discussing societal issues in light of the challenges facing our homelands through negative phenomena that disturb the public and broadcast negative energy and fear of the future, spreading rumours through modern media and technology. He explained that culture and art play a pivotal role in spreading awareness, spreading the spirit of belonging and loyalty to the homeland and enhancing the feeling of national identity. He highlighted the role of the Ministry of Culture in opening cultural centres in various governorates in order to provide cultural activities and events that spread awareness among young people. Dr. Khamis praised the role of the Library of Alexandria as a beacon of culture, that provides an opportunity to discuss national problems and challenges, provide unconventional solutions, and enhance youth awareness by developing a culture of reading.
Dr. Enas Diab stressed the importance of cultural platforms in promoting communication and cooperation among young people through offering cultural, artistic, and educational events to build a coherent society. She explained that cultural centres organize many workshops, theatrical performances, exhibitions of plastic art and photography, concerts, cultural, literary, poetic events, drawing workshops and cinema clubs. These activities provide cultural, emotional and social support for youth, encourage innovation and creativity, promote the values of culture, belonging, diversity, qualification and training of young people for the labour market, and support for people with cultural and social determination, indicating the role of Horreya Creativity Centre in organizing many activities, events and cultural seminars in cooperation with Alexandria University, to raise the level of awareness among young people, and its future plan to increase these activities.
The seminar concluded by several discussions between the guests and the attendees from students of various faculties, during which they stressed the importance of continuing organizing events related to spreading awareness and culture and how to confront rumours.
Conclusion of Fourth Arab Youth Forum for Entrepreneurship at Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the activities of the Fourth Arab Youth Forum for Entrepreneurship concluded, which was organized by the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science in cooperation with the Association for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship. Its activities continued for two days at the faculty's headquarters, and was attended by a group of thinkers, faculty members, executives concerned with entrepreneurship, as well as entrepreneurs who own small, medium and micro enterprise, in addition representatives of civil society organizations, led by the Businessmen Association, representatives of religious institutions, media figures, and hundreds of researchers and students.
Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty, in his speech, stressed the importance of entrepreneurship as a creative idea in light of the need for successful and constructive ideas and new mechanisms to create various jobs in light of the widespread unemployment at large rates at various national and global levels.
Dr. Suzette El-Ridi, founder of the forum and president of the Economic Development and Entrepreneurship Association, also pointed out the basic role of the forum in encouraging projects and entrepreneurship as a societal responsibility and a national duty. Dr. El-Ridi emphasized the pioneering role of the forum in transferring the expertise of specialists and academics to promising young people in order to hone their experiences and encourage them to establish innovative projects.
Dr. Abdelwahab Ghoneim - Vice President of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy and Advisor to Cambridge College, referred in his speech to contemporary economic vocabulary and the tremendous technological developments that the world is experiencing in the twenty-first century, which in turn were reflected in entrepreneurship, and the size of the digital economy based on information technology now constitutes approximately 50 percent of the global economy.
Dr. Mona Abdellatif, Director of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, pointed to the prominent role played by the forum in providing a unique opportunity to meet distinguished and creative Arab youth in the field of entrepreneurship, where experiences and knowledge are exchanged and cooperation in the field of innovation and technology is enhanced. She also stressed the importance of the conference in unifying joint efforts between multiple entities, whether hosts or various entities across the Arab world, to exchange ideas and experiences and encourage joint cooperation between Arab youth, investors, and experts in the field of entrepreneurship.
Several important topics were discussed during the forum, including “Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurship” by Dr. Abdelwahab Ghoneim, and “A Closer Look at Policies to Encourage Entrepreneurship in Egypt and the Arab Region” by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Bahaa El-Din Khairy - Professor of Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, “Entrepreneurial Marketing” by Dr. Ayman Shawky, Director of the Development Center - Arab Academy for Science and Technology, and “The Role of the Businessmen Association in Supporting Entrepreneurship and Financing Startups” by Dr. Mohamed Moharram - Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Business Foundation - Businessmen Association In Alexandria, and “The Role of the Enterprise Development Agency in Supporting Entrepreneurs” by Mr. Salah Maged - Director of the Fourth Region - Enterprise Development Agency - Alexandria Office, while Dr. Nabil Shalabi - Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Arab Pioneers House and Vice President of John Cracknell Youth Bank in England reviewed the most prominent inspiring stories of successful models in the field of entrepreneurship.
