Faculty of Agriculture Organizes Symposium on Meat Production,Food Safety, and Climate Change
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Egyptian Society for Poultry Science, organized its annual symposium entitled “Strategies for the Sustainable Production of Animal Protein under Conditions of Climate Change,” in which the guest speakers were Dr.Tarek Hassan AEl-Houbi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Food Safety Authority, and Dr. Yehia Zakaria Eid, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture in Kafr El-Sheikh.
Dr. Mohamed Bahey El-Din, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Poultry Science Society, indicated that the meeting discussed ways to activate joint efforts between Alexandria University and the National Food Safety Authority, to prepare qualified cadres of inspectors to absorb and implement all binding technical regulations and rules set by the Authority to serve as the main reference for implementing foundations of food safety in Egypt.
Dr. Yehia Eid referred to the issue of climate change as one of the most important challenges facing the world at the present time, as it affects many vital sectors, including the animal production sector. He explaine that rising temperatures and changing climate patterns lead to a decrease in animal productivity, an increase in production costs, and the emergence of new diseases. He also pointed out that achieving sustainable production of animal protein under conditions of climate change requires following a set of strategies, including improving the productive efficiency of animals through the use of modern technologies, improving farm management, rationalizing the use of resources, and reducing the dependence of animal production on non-renewable resources through the use of sustainable food, recycling waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the use of climate-smart agricultural methods. Dr. Eid pointed out that achieving these strategies requires coordinating efforts between government agencies, the private sector and civil society, in order to ensure the production of sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly animal protein.
Dr. Tarek El-Houbi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Food Safety Authority, also referred to the National Food Safety Authority Law No. 1 of 2017 and its important and vital role as a service body responsible for monitoring food handling and safety in Egypt in providing healthy, safe and sustainable food to the Egyptian citizen. He stressed on the authority’s scientific and societal role and its contribution to building a new generation of examiners, pointing out the importance of linking the higher education system, scientific research, and mechanisms for implementing food safety in Egypt, by graduating generations who are scientifically and practically qualified and capable of managing the food safety system.
It is worth noting that the National Food Safety Authority implemented a training program on “The Tasks of the Food Safety Authority in Sea Ports” for 26 students among the top graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture at Alexandria University, during the period from the 1st until the 30th of the current month. The training program included a general introduction to the Authority’s Establishment Law No. 1 of 2017 and Executive Regulations No. 412 of 2019, and an introduction to the role and tasks of the National Food Safety Authority in monitoring Egypt’s imports and exports of food products, as well as the binding technical rules issued by the Authority, relevant legislation, and Egyptian standard specifications. The training program also included: Numerous field visits to food import and export inspection areas, and training according to the latest methods of examining samples of food commodities and various agricultural crops.
Discussing Cooperation between Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, and Bauhaus University in Germany
Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President for Graduate Studies at Alexandria University, received Dr. Frank Eckhardt, Head of the Planning and Social Studies Department at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany, with the aim of discussing ways of cooperation between the Faculty of Fine Arts at Alexandria University and the Bauhaus University in Germany in areas of common interest.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Dina Mandour, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dr. Nevin Gharib, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Sahar El-Arnaouti, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Mona El-Masry, Head of the Architecture Department, and Dr. Mai Karam, Coordinator of Cooperation with the Bauhaus University.
In his speech, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour stressed that the Bauhaus University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Germany, specializing in plastic arts, sculpture and architecture, which will open the way for discussing means of cooperation in the fields of architecture and fine arts between the German University and Alexandria University represented by the Faculty of Fine Arts, especially in the areas of common interest.
El-Ghandour pointed out that cooperation can also include the establishment of joint scientific degrees, the exchange of experiences, participation in scientific seminars and conferences, and student exchange whether on undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in order to connect with the international cooperation network in the various scientific and research fields.
While Dr. Frank Eckhardt confirmed that his university is keen to open prospects for cooperation with Alexandria University, which has a unique architectural heritage, pointing out that the Bauhaus University also possesses a unique architectural heritage, as the Bauhaus University building is one of the sites on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, noting that this common historical heritage between the two universities will result in unique cooperation with Alexandria University in the fields of engineering and architecture.
Faculty of Tourism and Hotels Organizes Educational Seminar Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Glorious October War
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels organized on Tuesday the 3rd of October, an educational and awareness seminar on the Glorious October War, as part of a series of activities and events organized by the university to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the victories of the Glorious October War. Participants included Major General Hashem Abul-Fadl, Operations Commander of one of the Air Defense Brigades - Air Defense Force, Major General Staff Ahmed Khairy El-Shiwi, Commander of the Tank Company of the 21st Armored Division, and Major General Mohamed El-Sayed Ahmed Taha, Assistant Head of the Reconnaissance Branch at the Command of the Parachute Unit - Parachute Corps. The seminar took place in the presence of Dr. Abeer Attia, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Dina Ezz El-Din, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Colonel Ahmed El-Geziri, Head of the Recruitment and Mobilization Department and Director of the Military Communications Department at Alexandria University, and an elite group of leaders who lived through the October War, as well as faculty members and students of the faculty.
Major General Hashem Abul-Fadl, head of operations of one of the Air Defense Brigades - the Air Defense Force, confirmed in his speech that Egypt will live forever strong and solid, and he advised the youth to preserve their homeland and continue the march to advance our homeland, Egypt. He provided a detailed explanation of the preparations that the army made before the start of the war, and the strategic deception plan, that gave an element of surprise to the enemy to recover the beloved land of Egypt.
Major General Staff Ahmed Khairy El-Shiwi, Commander of the Tank Company of the 21st Armored Division, also confirmed that Egypt’s plans for the October War are currently being studied in war academies around the world, and during his speech he explained that the Arab countries’ solidarity with Egypt during the war helped in its success.
Major General Mohamed El-Sayed Ahmed Taha, Assistant Head of the Reconnaissance Branch at the Parachute Unit Command - Parachute Corps, clarified the reconnaissance plan in North and South Sinai to prepare for the war. He also explained the role of the commandos forces and paratroopers during the war.
In her speech, Dr. Abeer Attia, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the attendees, the heroes of the October War, and thanked them for the sacrifices they made for the sake of our nation. She stressed that the aim of this seminar is to introduce students and new generations to the history of their fathers and grandfathers who participated in the war, and to remind them of the heroism of the great Egyptian people, the owner of civilization and history who presented an epic with the best soldiers on earth in order to restore dignity. She also emphasized that love of the homeland is inherited in the genes of the Egyptian youth, who are aware and enthusiastic about building and defending their homeland at any time.
Dr. Dina Ezz El-Din, vice dean for community service and environmental development, congratulated the students on the occasion of the anniversary of the October War and also on the start of the new academic year. She stressed that each of us is a fighter on our front and in our workplace, and added that the love of Egypt and the spirit of October exist within us forever.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abeer Attia honored the heroes of the armed forces in attendance.
Faculty of Education Hosts Cultural Building Program for Imams and Lady Preachers of Alexandria Endowment Directorate
Within the framework of the cooperation between Alexandria University and the Ministry of Endowments "Awqaf", and in the framework of the desire of both sides to spread the enlightened moderate thought, the cultural building program for imams and lady preachers of the Directorate of Awqaf in Alexandria has been launched for the first time, where the Faculty of Education will host a group of educational, awareness and enlightening lectures for 200 imams and 20 lady preachers.
The program commenced with a lecture entitled "The Psychological Traits of Imams and Lady Preachers", presented by Dr. Mohamed Anwar Farrag, Dean of the Faculty of Education, in the presence of Sheikh Salama Abdelrazaq, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf in Alexandria, Sheikh Hashem Saad El-Feqi, the Director of Preachers, and Sheikh Wessam Kasseb, the Director of Follow-up.
During the lecture, Dr. Farrag praised the role of the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments in building religious awareness, and its efforts to develop and educate its members among imams and lady preachers, and to integrate them into society and family, confirming that training is the language of the age, and that imams and lady preachers have a duty to advise, guide, and educate.
Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, discusses the challenges of academic work in light of the applications of artificial intelligence
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Center for Research and Economic Studies at the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science held a symposium entitled "Challenges of Academic Work in Light of Applications of Artificial Intelligence", in which Dr. Nabil Salah Al-Arabi, professor of digital economics at the faculty and consultant for one of the projects of the program, spoke. Formerly United Nations Development.
In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty, pointed out the importance of the topic of the symposium, its novelty, and the repercussions of the rapid successive developments in the world of artificial intelligence, which may be very dangerous for the future of scientific research.
During his lecture, Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi identified the most prominent topics of the symposium, which is the definition of the automated interlocutor with artificial intelligence (ChatGPT), its most important characteristics and versions, how it works and practical examples of its use in teaching tasks (course design / test setting / test answer / correcting assignments / explaining concepts to students / answering questions / solving problems) And practical examples of its use in scientific research: (proposing a research idea/ presenting a general background on the subject/ presenting a list of references on the subject/ writing an article with references/ reformulating the text/ translation), and weakness. The most important challenges of the applications of artificial intelligence in academic work were discussed, the most important of which is providing reasonable but incorrect answers, fake citations, and threatening the integrity of scientific production with plagiarism and dissemination of misleading information.
