Alexandria University Organizes Student Climate Change Initiative Throughout the Year
Within the framework of Alexandria University’s keenness to enable students to play an active role in climate change issues, and under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Alexandria University organizes throughout the year until the end of 2023, coinciding with the beginning of the COP27 Climate Summit, a student initiative that aims to engage students in addressing climate change issues, propose innovative solutions, educate them and urge them to pay attention to the effects of climate change in the city of Alexandria and how to protect it from the effects of climate change, through various interactive events that include capacity building, youth dialogue, competitions, theatre performances, training camps, as well as climate change awareness campaigns.
The events began on Thursday the 3rd of November, with the inaugural film screening of the Alexandria University Cinema (AU CINEMA) by Dr. El-Sayed El-Saifi, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, as a practical part of the social issues course, in the Faculty of Commerce theatre (Hall D), in the presence of Dr. Ayman Shteiwi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Commerce for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Salah Soliman, professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and general coordinator of the social issues course at Alexandria University, in addition to 1,500 students from the university’s different faculties, where the movie “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” was shown, a documentary film about a true story that happened in a poor African village in Malawi.

The idea of the film is based on using the mind to innovate and solve the energy crisis, by having confidence in our capabilities, through the story of a 13-year-old boy who was expelled from the school he loves when his family can no longer afford to pay the fees. However, the boy sneaks into the school library and learns how to build a windmill with which he saves not only his family but also all the people of his village from starvation.
Dr. Ahmed Wahban Re-appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Wahban on the occasion of the issuance of the presidential decree to renew his appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, wishing him success and continuous efforts to maintain the achievements of the faculty, stressing that all support and assistance will be provided to him for his success in performing his mission.
It is worth noting that Dr. Ahmed Wahban has been a member of the Economic Studies and Political Sciences Sector Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities since 2020. He is also a member of the jury of the International Politics Journal issued by the Al-Ahram Centre for Strategic Studies, and a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Public Policy at the Information and Decision Support Centre of the Egyptian Cabinet. He received the State Encouragement Award in Economic and Legal Sciences from the Supreme Council of Culture in 2001. He has many published research papers and scientific books in his field of specialization.
Faculty of Pharmacy organizes a sports marathon for walking and cycling entitled "Running for Green"
Under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Pharmacy, in cooperation with the students of the Scientific Society of Faculty of Pharmacy, organized a sports marathon for walking and cycling under the title "Running for Green" within the framework of the preparations of Faculty of Pharmacy and University of Alexandria for the Climate Change Conference COP27 to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November 2022.
Prof. Dr. Mervat Kassem, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, pointed out that the marathon was launched from the front of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to the Citadel of Qaitbay with the participation of about 150 individuals, and an elite of Faculty staff members, Faculty employees, and students. She explained that the organization of the marathon came with the aim of unify the students and Faculty members as one family and to encourage the students to practice sports to improve their physical and mental health, which reflects positively on their academic performance.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Sherif Rostom, Vice Dean of Community Service and Environmental Development, stated that the marathon is part of a campaign adopted by Faculty of Pharmacy entitled "Go Green" that includes several events within the framework of the state's directions for sustainability in preserving the environment and combating climate change "Prepare for Green".
At the end of the marathon, prizes and certificates of appreciation were handed over to the winners of the top three places in both the walking and cycling competitions.
4 students from the faculty of Economics and Political Science win scholarships to the University of Chicago
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated the four students of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Sciences who won a scholarship to study for a year at the American University of Chicago, wishing them success and progress.
The students are:
1- Farah Mahmoud Hosni Youssef (Second level - Economics)
2- Youssef Shehab El-Din Mohamed (Second Level - Economics)
3- Maria Ashraf Ghali Kamel (Second level - Economics)
4- Karim Ahmed Ibrahim Ragaa Ahmed (Third level - Political Science)
Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty, indicated that the number of students winning the scholarship doubled this year compared to last year, as a result of the efforts and interest of Alexandria University in academic and research cooperation with international universities. He also thanked Dr. Noha Nagy, lecturer of economics and international cooperation officer at the faculty, for her efforts in preparing and qualifying the applicants for the scholarship fully funded by the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, which is competed for by students from many Egyptian universities.
Presidential Decree Appointing Dr. Rehab Mahmoud Seddik as Dean of the Faculty of Early Childhood Education
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received Dr. Rehab Mahmoud Seddik, where he congratulated her on the issuance of the presidential decree appointing her as Dean of the Faculty of Early Childhood Education, wishing her success in assuming the duties of her position, and continuous efforts to raise the level of the faculty. He stressed that the university will provide all forms of support and assistance to help her in carrying out her mission successfully.
