As part of Alexandria University’s participation in the presidential initiative “A New Beginning for Building the Egyptian Citizen”, and under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, inaugurated today the awareness seminar entitled “The Danger of Drugs and the Role of Youth in Confrontation”, organized by the Faculty of Education at the college premises.

The seminar was delivered by Dr. Salam El-Sayed El-Arabi, Supervisor of Alexandria Governorate at the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse affiliated with the Cabinet. The event was attended by Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Salem Abdel Razek, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. El-Sayeda Mahmoud, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Lamia El-Shafie, General Coordinator of Student and Voluntary Activities at the University; along with a large number of faculty members and students.

In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim emphasized that Alexandria University attaches great importance to raising students’ awareness of the dangers of addiction and is keen to organize numerous activities aimed at spreading a culture of awareness about the risks of drug abuse. He highlighted the vital role of youth in leading awareness and prevention efforts both within and beyond the university community. He also stressed the need to change the public perception of drug users, viewing them as victims who need support and guidance to return to the right path and contribute to building the nation.

For his part, Dr. Hassan Abdeen affirmed that young people represent the real energy of society and its hope for the future. He pointed out that the Faculty of Education is committed to implementing the university’s vision of preparing an educated and enlightened generation with a well-rounded personality, through providing support, guidance, and awareness on the risks of negative behaviors such as addiction — in line with the state’s vision for building the Egyptian citizen across education, health, and development sectors.

During the seminar, Dr. Salam El-Sayed El-Arabi discussed several key topics, including: the concept and risks of narcotic substances, the dimensions of addiction problems, types of addictive substances, and the causes leading to drug use. He also reviewed national efforts in implementing the National Strategy for Combating Drugs.

The seminar witnessed remarkable interaction from students, who raised many questions and inquiries, expressing their happiness to participate and their appreciation of the seminar’s informative content. They also expressed their eagerness to take part in future activities that enrich their university

experience.

Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated the students of the Faculty of Engineering participating in the summer training program at the University of Louisville, USA, on the occasion of achieving first places in the annual summer training competition at the University of Louisville, where student Rana Mohamed El-Saeed Zayed won first place, and student Mariam Nabil Abdelfattah Ismail won second place.
 
 
 
It is worth noting that the summer training program comes within the framework of the distinguished partnership between Alexandria University and the University of Louisville, USA, over the past years, which includes the partnership in summer training in research laboratories at the University of Louisville, and the partnership in the 2+2 bachelor's programs to grant double degrees in computer science and engineering, and biomedical engineering majors.
 
 
 
This year will witness the graduation of the first group that joined the University of Louisville through this partnership in the field of biomedical engineering, numbering five students.

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Acting President of Alexandria University, and the supervision of Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, organized a graduation ceremony for the 83rd batch of international students in the general program for the academic year 2023/2024.
 
 
The event took place in the presence of Dr. Iman Youssef, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Environmental Affairs and Community Service, Dr. Hala Maklad, Executive Director of the University's International Students Department, Dr. Abdelmoneim Fawzy, Head of the Doctors Syndicate in Alexandria, in addition to several deans and vice deans of faculties, heads of departments, faculty members, a number of consuls, ambassadors, diplomatic missions, and parents.
 
 
 
In her speech, Dr. Iman Youssef congratulated the international students on their graduation, stressing that the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, is a large institution with a good international reputation on the “Study in Egypt” platform, which students from all over the world seek to belong to and graduate from. She also thanked the students for their efforts and hard work throughout their years of study, pointing out the challenges and difficulties they faced, the most important of which is their distance from their families and homeland. She said that Egypt was their second homeland, and that today is the day of the oath, after which they will be doctors of the future and ambassadors of Egypt in their countries. She stressed that the faculty administration will support them in their future practical and professional career and will open its doors to learning, whether in the mandatory training year as interns or postgraduate students. She also thanked the parents, stressing that today is the day of harvest for their children, as they reap the fruits of their struggle and efforts throughout the years of study to become doctors whose parents are proud of, and who will contribute to building their countries.

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konswa, President of Alexandria University, and under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Acting Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, faculty of Nursing organized its first student conference, which was held under the title *"Towards Sustainable Development: Nursing Students' Perspective"* at the faculty headquarters and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Nefertiti Hassan Zaki, Dean of the faculty, and Prof. Dr. Hanan Hosni El-Sherbiny, Vice Dean of the faculty for Education and Student Affairs, the heads of scientific departments, and the faculty members of the College of Nursing.
 
 
 
In the honorable and grateful presence of many leading figures and faculty members at Alexandria University, representatives of various agencies, bodies, sectors and ministries in Alexandria, as well as representatives of civil society, the press and the media, to support youth and students in their journey towards sustainable development.
 
 
 
In her opening speech at the conference, Prof. Dr. Nefertiti Hassan Zaki, Dean of the faculty, said that sustainable development is a basic principle that everyone must keep in mind, explaining that the faculty, as an educational institution, is committed to promoting this concept and encouraging research and innovation in the field of health care, and stressed that the care that the Egyptian state gives towards promoting sustainable development and strengthening effective capabilities to achieve it is One of the strategic goals of the Egyptian state.
 
 
 
 
While Prof. Dr. Hanan Hosni El-Sherbiny indicated that the conference aims to highlight the pioneering role of Alexandria University students in general and students of the Faculty of Nursing in particular towards sustainable development, which draws the road map towards achieving the dream of the new republic, and she added that the faculty was honored to present student models who are aware and responsible. It is working towards the future at a promising pace, and the students’ scientific contributions to the conference included 11 presentations and scientific research, as well as 10 posters in the field of sustainable development.
 
 
 
 
While Prof. Dr. Salwa Al-Badry, Professor and Head of the Department of Internal and Surgical Nursing and Chairman of the Conference, said that education is the key to success for any profession, especially the most prestigious profession, the nursing profession that deals with people. Therefore, the participation of students in this conference was an addition. She said that the conference is the beginning of a series of student scientific conferences that are concerned with everything new. In the world of nursing.
 
 
 
Professor Ola Mamdouh, Secretary General of the Conference, indicated that the students and coordinators of the scientific departments made an unprecedented effort to produce the scientific conference in a manner befitting the College of Nursing, wishing them and all attendees a fruitful scientific day.
